This month, we honor the strength and resilience of those who have faced cancer with c
ourage—and we are proud to recognize one of our Operations Production Supervisor, Ron DeVogel, who recently completed treatment for cancer this April.
Ron was diagnosed with right tonsil and right lymph node squamous cell carcinoma in December 2024, after discovering symptoms in October and seeking medical attention. He began an intensive treatment plan in February, completing 7 weeks of daily radiation (35 sessions total)— including 4 weeks of proton therapy and 3 weeks of photon/LINAC therapy—alongside 7 rounds of chemotherapy.
His treatments were performed on one of our very own BoS® devices.
The treatment was aggressive but effective, targeting the tumor from multiple angles. While chemotherapy was low-dose and focused, and side effects were relatively mild, the cumulative effects of treatment were physically and emotionally taxing. Ron endured severe mouth and throat sores, difficulty swallowing, significant weight loss, and painful skin reactions from radiation. His energy levels were deeply affected, and recovery continues as his body heals and adjusts post-treatment.
Despite these challenges, Ron has shown incredible perseverance and a positive outlook. As of now, his doctors are optimistic—the tumor is retreating, and a follow-up PET scan in July will determine remission. In place of the tumor is now fibrosis from radiation, and Ron is attending physical therapy to support his recovery.
Ron shares this advice: "Pay attention to your body. Be patient with the healing process. I’m feeling positive that the treatment worked, and I’m slowly getting back to normal—embracing the time it takes to get there."
We are incredibly grateful to have Ron on our team. His courage and honesty are an inspiration to all of us, and we stand beside him—and all survivors—this month and every month.
